About
Hi! I'm Oliver, founder of Honest Protein and this is my face when I look at the labels of so called "fitness" or "healthy" or "protein" foods:
Scary, I know. But why such a sour face with a glance on mere food labels? Especially ones that are supposedly healthy?
Well, all those snacks that scream to be "healthy" are anything but healthy.
Those "fit" foods add one fit ingredient that makes 5% of content and rest is just artificial chemicals, added sugars, inflammatory vegetable oils and so on.
Those "high-protein" foods and snacks can from time to time even be high in protein. But of course, they never tell the whole story: there is more often than not MORE SUGAR and even added sugar than protein! Shouldn't it be then called "high-sugar" snack or food? This in my opinion is dishonest and deceptive and takes advantage of people who strive to be healthier but lack knowledge and expertise required to read labels properly (which is most of us).
One of many perfect examples of this is Quaker's "Protein" oatmeal, more ADDED sugars than protein and questionable ingredients like a soy lecithin which might be disturbing our gut microbiome and for some people causing many issues:
Disappointed by crap displayed in groceries and sold over the internet (where it is even harder to read and understand labels) I began to experiment myself with creating high-protein homemade snacks that are not only good for my performance in the short term, but also for my long term health and longevity.
False Dichotomy Between "Healthy" and "Functional"
Most brands focus either on making snacks/foods/supplements for short term performance OR long term health. But I couldn't find any that would strive to do both.
Snacks without artificial additives and questionable ingredients, but full of healthy superfoods are almost always devoid of any protein or functional ingredients for cognitive and physical energy in the short term.
Snacks full of protein and energy boosting nutrients are filled with artificial chemicals and additives and ingredients of questionable origin and effects.
This situation compelled me to create something that doesn't make compromises and doesn't cut corners. Something that is healthy in the long term and yet provides functional energy and strength. But not only that, because that would be boring!
I wanted it to be fun. I wanted to recreate nostalgia of eating our favorite snacks from childhood. It is time that in our advanced age we stop eating crap that is being sold to us in stores and replace it with something that if not "healthy", is at least not unhealthy, which is easier to discern through simple heuristic: if it cannot be found in nature and people haven't been eating it for a long time already, then it is probably not safe for our long term health.
Are Our High-Protein Snacks The Healthiest Ones on The Market?
I don't know if our snacks are "healthiest" because what is really healthy in general is hard to tell, nobody really knows as of yet. And what is healthy for you might be unhealthy for someone else, we are all different.
But we at least know what is unhealthy, and what is being sold in stores and labeled as "fit" or "healthy" or "high-protein" etc. is precisely that: unhealthy.
What we strive to do is at least to NOT make UNHEALTHY snacks with hopes of creating healthiest high protein snacks with ingredients and claims that you can finally trust. Trying to do less harm with hopes of ending up doing more of good.
Remembering the good old rule of: first do no harm, then strive to do the good.
Our philosophy is simple:
High-Protein snacks that doesn't suck with ingredients and claims that you can finally trust. Instead of added sugars and artificial chemicals to your food, we added superfoods - this means every snack we make is made only out of ingredients that are good for you.
Each ingredient has as its purpose to make you feel better and strong, physically and mentally and over the long term, rather than what most food companies do where they include most of their ingredients as preservatives and fillers to save on their costs but not on your health. Purpose of ingredients is to preserve your health and performance, rather than the shelf-life of food and profits of big corporations.
We don't believe that there is such a thing as the "best" diet, as most up-to-date scientific data suggests. That's why you will be able to find among our snacks ones that are keto-friendly but also ones that have a good dose of healthy carbs. Or ones that are vegan-friendly and ones that are carnivore-friendly. What's best varies from person to person and from time to time. But what is bad, there is much bigger agreement - and that bad stuff is what you will not find in our high protein snacks.
You can look forward for this philosophy to be embodied in your favorite snacks from childhood without compromising its taste!
